I wake up this morning thinking about money or more accurately, lack of money. Tis the season to start worrying. Christmas is coming and many of us have a tendency to overspend. Well, ok, I have a tendency to overspend. Every year I say, I will set a budget. I will plan things out better. I will start to buy gifts earlier. And...it never happens. So why is this year any different?
This year is different because this year I made choices that have affected our family financially. I've left my steady, secure, well-paying job to start a new business. I have taken costly training this past year and am currently taking further training that is impacting our financial state of affairs. All of this has been an investment in my future. I have chosen to do it so as to be here for my family physically, but more importantly emotionally. I have made these choices to move into a career that I find more rewarding and fulfilling.
So what is different this year. Really nothing financially. I always worry about money at this time of the year. What is different is that I am consciously living each day. Given that I work from home a good portion of the time, I am aware of how good it feels to be more present in the lives of my children. I know my husband appreciates that I more frequently have supper prepared when he gets home at the end of the day. I know that I have positively impacted the lives of many of the people that I currently work with in a way that is inspiring and freeing for them and for me. I am aware that I have made choices that have a cost, financially or otherwise in my life. The difference this year is that gains I have made far outweigh the financial costs.
So I will continue to worry about money, because it is what I do. It keeps me connected to how much I really am spending on material things all the while consciously aware that the gift I have given myself and my family this year can never be measured financially.
I lead a full life full of love, adventure and growth. Check out my latest thoughts here.
