When I decided to change my job, I wanted to be able to enjoy life more. To be more relaxed, to slow down and enjoy the little things. Today was such a day. Ernie suggested a drive to the greenhouse. Now anyone who knows me knows that I would never turn that down. It wasn't the greenhouse so much as the calm pace of the afternoon.
Ernie is really one who knows how to be in the moment and teaches me so much about that. As we are driving along, he always has his eyes peeled for sites, scenes and wildlife. Today, it was a couple of ponds on the side of the road. We got out and took pictures of the ducks, caught a frog and picked cat tails. Later, it was butterflies and birds that caught our eye. The scent of flowers, fresh rain and the trees and grass have a way of touching me to my core
Never in a rush, able to hold hands and wander, I am grateful for the lessons from my best friend. We talk about the past, what we are up to now and dreams for the future. Always knowing we are in it together, it seems so much easier to manage from the slow pace of enjoying each step along our journey together.

Today is the first day of summer today. It almost slipped by without being noticed. We've had so much rain here (10 days straight so far) that I almost stopped checking to see what the forecast would be. Except, alas, I am a bit addicted. I check the forecast at least once if not more often a day. I don't know how I survived when I had to wait until the news hourly to hear it and goodness if I missed it I'd have to wait for the next hourly report to hear it. Thank God for internet to fuel my addiction!
I know I am not the only one that checks the weather daily. The weather is the opening topic of most connections. I phone someone and the first thing we talk about is often the weather. If you meet someone in the grocery store you talk about how hot/cold it is, Weather is usually part of the conversation my husband and I have within the first 5 minutes of our day. It impacts his work, our kids activities, what to wear, and plans for the upcoming days.
I try to remind myself that there is a reason for all weather. The wind spreads pollen, the rain cleans up the dust, the snow provides protection for the delicate plants underneath, and the sun makes all my beautiful flowers bloom! So my vow for the rest of this week.....to enjoy the weather ......whatever Mother Nature brings!
Snow in June. Yes, in Northern Alberta, that is really not that far out of the norm. I worried and fretted and took care of my plants yesterday and today woke up to a fresh sunny day.
The quick changes in weather remind me of how quickly things can change in life. We can be floating along through life each day much the same as the rest and then wham....something happens that shakes us to the core. And just the same as we have “bad” days, they can quickly turn into fabulous days in the blink of an eye!
Have you every just smiled at a stranger. I wonder what a difference it made in their life, or yours. What about when you take the time to give your loved one a hug? It has an amazing ability to re-center us and the ability to start fresh from that point on. Like the change in weather, we can shift the way we are blowing in our lives and become a gentle breeze blowing love and warmth on those around us.
What will you do to change the weather in your life today?
I lead a full life full of love, adventure and growth. Check out my latest thoughts here.
